A background (or two) where there's just the swimming penguins, or just the cloudy sky. Three horizontal bands with three images in the background is a bit too "busy" for a desktop background, but that's just my opinion.
I love your avatar. Also, looks like you have the timer counting down by putting little white dots around the Debian spiral in the GRUB background, which looks very cool. |

I haven't got the original pic of the penguins or the clouds on their own. I can possibly get it off the guy that made it but I can't promise anything soz.
I can't take credit for that countdown on the grub. That part was acritox's work I think. |

I created a splashy theme using one of your wallpapers, Cathbard!
You can download it here, (slam: moved to our server for faster download) instructions on how to install in the README file.
http://splashy.alioth.debian.org/wiki/doku.php?id=faq hat folgendes geschrieben::
Edit your /etc/apt/sources.list and add:
deb http://splashy.alioth.debian.org/debian unstable main
Then run:
apt-get update
apt-get install splashy splashy-themes
/edit/
oh, didn't know you already had done a splashy theme just read it in post
http://kanotix.com/index.php?name=PNphp ... highlight=
that slam posted while i was typing my post here
(slam: his theme here looks better - forget mine.) |

Okay, I downloaded the gfxboot-theme-kanotix_0.2-2_all.deb file and installed it and its dependencies (gfxboot, gfxboot-theme-kanotix-2006-easter etc). Now how do I get it to replace the easter boot menu with this one? I tried the ln -fs message.hd /boot/message and the grub-install /dev/hda but the old boot menu still shows. Also, is there any way to get the "Kanotix Penguins 2006 - no fish " kdm theme to show the text in english (such as username and password)?
Thanks.
Edit:I changed the language to en in the kdmrc file.
Edit2:I figured out how to enable the gfxboot . |

You're quite right, I should have said gxfboot > 3 for the grub.
For the bootsplash, last time I checked acritox's bootsplash didn't work on kernel 2.6.17. I guess that will change if it hasn't already. I intend to have a play with splashy in the near future which should remove the necessity to patch the kernel like bootsplash does.
Sorry I took so long to answer you. I kept getting distracted. |

Yeah, any slh kernel won't work with bootsplash. It sees that only Kano likes bootsplash in his kernels |

Well splashy has hit debian/sid and me and slam have created one ready for you all. You will find it in the fourth post with all the other miscellaneous stuff.
Instructions on how to install it are in the readme file. |

Thanks Cathbard for the splashy and the instructions included in it. I installed splashy a couple of days ago and did not know I had to do the unfreeze and freeze stuff to get it to work. Keep up the good work. |

Thanks guys, well I'm still at it. There is now an iconset for the kmenu posted in the fourth post. To use it unzip the file and copy them into the icon folder you are using. This will be something like /usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/size/apps if you are using the crystal set.
Each icon is labelled kmenu128.png, kmenu64.png, kmenu48.png etc. These must be renamed to kmenu.png and placed in the appropriate subfolder. (ie kmenu128.png becomes /usr/share/icons/crystalsvg/128/apps/kmenu.png)
Enjoy |

Does it ever end? There is now a kdm theme for you 64 bit users.
You will also find two brand new Kanopenguins kdm themes as well. These ones have a user list box for those of you that have more than one user and can't remember what their names are or are too lazy to type. I hope you like them because it wasn't easy. You find all three in the second post.
Feel free to vote on kde-look as well. It seems that this thread means that most of you download them without ever seeing them at kde-look. My DL count goes up but its alway very silent over there. |

The list box kdm's had a bug if using timed auto-login. It has now been fixed so if you have downloaded it prior to this post download it again to get the bug fix.
The Kanotix 64 wallpaper is in the first post now too. |

I made some Firefox icons to match the penguins theme. They are in the fourth post.

that firefox icon looks a bit like the one on the nuovext icon set, but better! i'm not a big fan of the artwork included with easter (no big deal, it's easy to get it to look the way i want anyway), but with everything i see on this thread, it looks like the stable release will look really, really good. keep it up cathbard! |

You have a keen eye there hk47. I liked the nuovest ff icon and thought it looked good against the penguin theme but it lacked depth so I made one that had some. |

OK, I'm a convert. Yeah, baby. Oh, yeah. Nice work, Cathbard.
In order to consolidate the current installation instructions, here they are. Please correct mistakes.
To install the new grub boot screen (as root):
- Make sure you have the packages "grub-gfxboot" and "gfxboot" installed and current. If you update them, reinstall grub (e.g. "grub-install /dev/hda" to put it on the MBR of the first hard drive; or "grub-install /dev/hdb1" to put it in the boot sector of the first partition on the second hard drive -- and think before you hit Enter!)
- Download and install kanotix-graphics_0.6.1_all.deb (with dpkg)
- If you get a message telling you that "/boot/message" is the wrong one, back it up (e.g. "mv /boot/message /boot/message.original") and create a symlink to the new one ("ln -fs /boot/message.hd /boot/message")
- Test it out!
To install the new bootsplash background (as root):
Note: This will only work if you're running a kernel that Kano produced. If you have a kernel by slh (one that has "-slh-" in the name), it won't. (Thanks, op4latino.)
- Make sure you have the "bootsplash" package (and dependencies) installed. (You may need to let it uninstall "busybox-kanotix" and "kanotix-terminalserver" in order to install dependencies.)
- Download bootsplash-theme-kanotix-0.6-1_all.deb
- Download install-bootsplash-acritox.sh:
# wget -N http://www.andreas-loibl.de/linux/scrip ... acritox.sh
# chmod +x install-bootsplash-acritox.sh
- Install a bootsplash theme other than the Kanotix theme, such as "bootsplash-theme-newlinux":
# apt-get install bootsplash-theme-newlinux
- Run "dpkg-reconfigure bootsplash", select the newly installed theme, and leave all the other choices at their defaults
- Run the "install-bootsplash-acritox.sh" script
- Install bootsplash-theme-kanotix-0.6-1_all.deb (with dpkg)
- Run "dpkg-reconfigure bootsplash" again; this time, choose the new Kanotix theme, and leave all the other choices at their defaults
- Run the "install-bootsplash-acritox.sh" script again
- Test it out!
- If you want to see the boot messages instead of the progress bar, change "splash=silent" to "splash=verbose" in /boot/grub/menu.lst |

eco2geek:
I think we should say that bootsplash only works if you boot with kano's kernel. If you boot with a slh kernel, it won't work. So in this case there's no other choice that to use splashy.
EDIT: eco2geek has already put a note about this in his how to. |
