I want to run kanotix from a compact flash card on my laptop. Advantage with respect to USB: no parts sticking out of the computer. Unfortunately my laptop cannot boot from pcmcia. So I decided to put the big KNOPPIX file on the CF card and make a USB stick to boot the laptop and change to the compact flash card with cheatcode "fromhd=/dev/hdc1". (My CF card is found as hdc1 when I run kanotix from the USB stick). However, pcmcia is not loaded in miniroot. So I made a new miniroot by placing all .ko files related to pcmcia in /modules/pcmcia in miniroot. I also added insmod commands for all these modules in linuxrc. Only module pcmcia_core.ko is loaded without errors.
But, I still cannot boot from /dev/hdc1 (or any other hd* for that matter). So obviously I made a mistake or I should have made more changes to miniroot.

Any suggestions how I should modify miniroot to run from CF?
