so, i used h2's script to get the latest kernel (great script, btw). everything went well, except that i couldn't get the sources for it for some reason. running install-kernel-source-vanilla.sh fails, saying that there is no source available for the currently-running kernel, so i can't reinstall the nvidia drivers. any ideas? thanks!

There is a small script inside of the unzipped kernel package named slh-source.sh . You can use this to download the sources. ( i hope i am not mislead Winken )

You never (!) need the kernel source for nvidia drivers. Use

make-kernel-links

to fix your install. Be sure the linux-headers package is installed.

thanks, EvNu and Kano! my system is now back up and running.

wow, i've installed nvidia drivers many times before and i never realized that only the headers are needed. i guess you learn something new everyday. i downloaded the kernel source anyway just in case i need it for anything else (the slh-source.sh script worked).

I had that same problem before...kano's tip works great and a good thing to remember when you upgrade a kernel
