Software - How to install winetools?

Last year I installed Kanotix with kernel 2.6.14-kanotix-9, and successfully installed wine / winetools. I've had to re-install from a hardware problem (same version Kanotix - I want the non-smb) but winetools does not seem to be at Wine HQ anymore - but maybe I'm dumb:

# apt-get update
# apt-get install winetools wine
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package winetools

# apt-cache search winetools
#

Searching, I find that Ubuntu has a package that `works for some debian users' , but I don't know if they will work. Anyone?

just use the .tar.gz version from here http://www.von-thadden.de/Joachim/WineT ... l#download
works great here.

Thanks. If you use the `.tar.gz' version, does the existing Kanotix wine have to be updated?

I don't think it needs an update. If you want to have the latest wine anyway just add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list:

#WINE
deb http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt/ binary/
deb-src http://wine.sourceforge.net/apt/ source/

wine tools is supposedly not a good option any longer:

the preferred app is:
http://www.wine-doors.org/

haven't tested that personally, but check it out

If all you need is msie installation give this a try:
http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/index-en.html

that works great, ies4linux

i installed ies4linux and it works a treat. Got IE6 and 5.5 working under wine without a lot of effort. The kicker is that it also installs Flash 9 plugin Smilie
